NQA Recertifies SPIROL Environmental Management System to ISO 14001

SPIROL International Corporation in Danielson, CT, announces their ISO 14001 recertification by National Quality Assurance, U.S.A. (NQA).

By implementing and adhering to conservation policies aimed at reducing their global footprint, in the last year SPIROL International achieved the following:

• Electricity use was decreased by 27.56%
  
• Process water decreased by 24.09%
• Lubricant use decreased by 28.01%

SPIROL constantly re-evaluates their manufacturing and administrative processes to help improve the environment.  There is an extensive recycling program for paper, batteries, light bulbs, raw materials and manufacturing fluids.  They also have implemented energy saving apparatuses such as automatic light switches and auto-flush units in the commodes.

ISO 14001 is a standard for environmental management systems implemented in any business, regardless of size, location or income. The aim of the standard is to reduce the environmental footprint of a business and to decrease the pollution and waste a business produces. The most recent version of ISO 14001 was released in 2004 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) which has representation from committees all over the world. The ISO 14000 environmental management standards exist to help organizations minimize how their operations negatively affect the environment. In structure it is similar to ISO 9000 quality management and both can be implemented side by side. In order for an organization to be awarded an ISO 14001 certificate they must be externally audited by an audit body that has been accredited by an accreditation body.
