Model CR Semi-Automatic Heavy Duty Pin Inserter
This robust, vertical pin insertion machine is ideally suited for moderate- to high-volume production applications requiring up to 8kN (1,800 lbs) of installation force and is commonly used to install Coiled Spring Pins, Slotted Spring Pins, and Solid Pins, along with a variety of other pins*. A retractable pin orientation head, mounted on a shaft/linear bearing arrangement, moves up and down for easy loading and unloading of the assembly components. The insertion bushing is positioned close to the part ensuring smooth, trouble-free installation. The orientation head shuttles the pin from the feeding position to the installation position, while also functioning as a selector to prevent longer or shorter pins from being installed. A two-position trap door allows for easy clear-out of the feed tube.
Dual and triple versions of the Model CR are readily available to suit your assembly objectives, with options including rotary index tables, pin sensing, force monitoring, drilling and pinning combinations, and alignment fixtures to enhance productivity and error-proofing.
*Can be adapted to install Alignment Dowels / Bushings

Application Success Stories
Resolving Pin Installation and Performance Issue in Flex Head Ratchet Tools
Customer Challenge
A leading hand tool manufacturer experienced product performance and assembly challenges when installing an Ø8 mm Solid Grooved Pin into the pivot joint of a Flexible Head Ratchet Wrench. Wide hole size variation resulted in inconsistent insertion forces, reduced pin retention, and occasional secondary operations. The manual installation process also required approximately 15 seconds per assembly and produced scrap rates approaching 5%.
SPIROL Solution
- SPIROL Application Engineers recommended a complete fastening and assembly solution by replacing the Ø8 mm Solid Grooved Pin with an Ø8 mm Heavy Duty Coiled Spring Pin and automating the installation process using SPIROL's standard Model CR Semi-Automatic Pin Inserter.
- The Coiled Spring Pin accommodated the application's wide hole tolerance while providing superior retention and eliminating the risk of pin walkout.
- The automated installation process simplified assembly, improved consistency, reduced scrap, and cut assembly cycle time from 15 seconds to just 5 seconds.
